Israel, Hamas clash over Gaza, then truce reached

After a day of intense fighting across the border, Israel and Hamas agreed to an Egyptian-mediated ceasefire, Palestinian officials said. "An agreement on a ceasefire was reached between Palestinian factions and Israel upon Egyptian mediation," a senior Palestinian official told Reuters on condition of anonymity.
