NASA has released the first clear, close-up photos of an object at the edge of our Solar System, in the region of the Ultima Thule. The photo has been taken by the New Horizon’s spacecraft telescope, flying around this asteroid, now called the Kuiper Belt Object (KBO), on January 1st, 2019, 4.1 billion miles (6.6B km) away from Earth.
The closest images come from the Long-Range Reconnaissance Imager (LORRI), shot on January 1st at 5h01. There are also some colored pictures, taken with an infrared and blue ray technology thanks to the Multispectral Visible Imaging Camera (MVIC) on board. This event is a massive milestone for the history of space discovery but most of all, for the history of photography.
